Subject: the youths of Sudan

My name is David Lokadito and I am an undergraduate student at the University of Eastern Africa - Baraton, Kenya.

I am also a leader of a youth initiative concerned with drug abuse called syada. I am glad that our people have really come from far to where we are now. Thank to you and to all the people of Sudan for their bravery, patience and endurance during this struggle for peace and equality in South Sudan. We have all fought the war and achieved victory.

But I am afraid that we are about to fight another war which at the moment is like a ticking time bomb and that is 'DRUG ABUSE' among the youths. We all know very well that the youths are the future leaders of this country and soon the mantle will be handed over to them.

But something is really not right at the moment. We youths are alarmingly drifting towards alcoholism, drug abuse and other illicit behaviours. Nowadays in Juba it would not be a surprise to spot a 12 or 13 year old smoking or drunk in public areas, especially around the bus terminus or market.

And where does he get the money to buy it...he works as a bus conductor or repairing motorcycles. That is worrying don’t you think so, underage boys and girls working instead of being in school?

And with the little money they get, they spend it on little flashy stuffs like clothings, shoes, radios, phones and the rest they misuse on alcohol, cigarettes, marijuana and girls.

Has anyone of us ever imagined how a 12 year old who smokes cigarette would look like after 10 years and how his health status would be? Yep, you got that right. He would look like an old man and who knows maybe he might be in a critical health condition.

We know the government is really doing a lot for us but I'm really concerned about this issue because at the moment we can say that we have minimal cases of HIV infections in South Sudan. But with the increasing rate of drug abuse its obvious that there will also be an increase in new cases of HIV infections and that would cause double trouble for us.

To win this fight, I suggest that the government should strongly put education as their top priority and immediately put up public learning institutions offering technical courses, vocational courses etc. They should also with immediate effect ban child labour which is fast growing in Juba and introduce strict measures against those who would employ

underage children.

The government should also use the media to educate and sensitizer the youths on the dangers of drug abuse and encourage on the importance of education. We should also not forget that there are a lot of talents among the youths and the youths or sports ministry should really invest on sports because it’s very important to a country.

And so, the ministry of sports should put up sports utilities like playing fields, basketball courts, gymnasium, sports clubs etc and they should also provide the youths with balls, sports gears, involving them in many tournaments and the results will speak among themselves. This will really shape the future of this country fro the best because the youths are the future!

Unemployment Levels Remain High in Eastern Equatoria State

By Peter Lokale Nakimangole

TORIT, December 30, 2008 (Gurtong) – The Deputy Governor of Eastern Equatorial State, His Excellency George Echom Ekeno, has expressed concern with the high rates of unemployment of university graduates in the state.

In an exclusive interview with Gurtong on Monday 29th December, Ekeno, who is also the State Minister of Local Government, confirmed that about two-thirds of the youth in the state remain unemployed despite having graduated with marketable courses.

He explained that due to the frustrations of studying hard in the hope of getting jobs and failing to do so, the idle youths have resorted to theft and other sorts of crimes in order to sustain their livelihoods.

“This is one of the major problems facing the unemployed youth and the State Government is trying to contain it by creating job opportunities in the coming year in an attempt to reduce the rate of crimes which currently appears rampant,” Ekeno said.

He also said that there is need for the Government of South Sudan to intervene and create employment opportunities so as to curb crime since similar cases and sometimes worse scenarios have emerged in the semi-autonomous South Sudan capital, Juba.

In other developments, State Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Francis Ben Ataba, said that his ministry has absorbed all those qualified for teaching fields and still seeks more recruits should they be available as per the previous advertisements.

“So far, about 150 newly employed teachers only this year are already on board and we are still targeting more teachers in the coming year because we have a wide gap to be filled,” asserted the minister.

The State Minister for Health, Flora Nighty Otto, also said that her ministry is understaffed hence compromising on the quality of services rendered to the locals.

Dear Editor,

I am a Sudanese student studying in Uganda .It is my pleasure to thank the Goss government for the great support they are giving to support the entire Sudanese students studying in E .Africa.

However I am really disappointed with the way our student leaders behave. Can you imagine that not all Sudanese students in each University /institution was given that money; reasons can be as below:

1.Registration was done on segregation basis as in few known students were inform about the registration process.

2. Most students are always not inform of any meeting taking place.

3. Students leaders registered their friends and girl friends who are non Sudanese and indeed they got that money.

4. Some students leaders submitted names of their colleagues who may not be even students in that University /institution and omitted the names of real students in that particular University /institution as a result some students realized that their names did not appear in the paying list and yet they were registered in the first registration.

FOR EXAMPLE IN MY INSTITUTE NON OF THE SUDANESE STUDENTS GOT THE MONEY AND YET THEIR APPEARED NAMES OF PEOPLE WE DO NOT HAVE IN OUR INSTITUTE. We raised the complain but the concern party did not even listen to us of which I think there were right.

Please where are we heading;

Please help me forward this to Director for Presidential Affairs in the President’s Office and SPLM’s secretary, Hon. Martin Majut Yak so that he can help sort out this differences.

In conclusion thanks for GOSS support

Sudanese Citizens Trained On Parenting the Kiwis Style

NEW ZEALAND, November 11 (Gurtong)-Four members of the Sudanese Community based in Auckland, New Zealand have just concluded a six-weeks parenting training session.

The four- Santino Atem Deng, Monica Adut Jok, Aban Yor and Theresa Aliah Ring, received the training that was facilitated by Strategies With Kids-Information for Parents, (SKIP).

SKIP’s vision is to see that all children are raised in a positive way, with parents loving and nurturing their children as well as setting boundaries to guide and teach them.

The objective of the training was to create a balance between the Sudanese parenting styles and the local New Zealand parenting styles. This is to ensure that the children born here in New Zealand do not lose their cultural touch due to the different cultural up bringing.

“There seems to be a struggle between parents and their children, particularly those born here and who do not know much or are not prepared to know about their roots”, observed Santino Atem Deng, the chairperson of the Sudanese community in New Zealand.

“Unlike in Sudan, the New Zealand laws do not permit violent disciplining of children, the only way therefore is to start talking to them as early in their childhood as possible”, he added.

Deng acknowledged the need to make Sudanese citizens adapt well into their new lifestyle and pledged to approach the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) to fund more of such training to cover a wider group.

The topics covered during the six-weeks training included; Talking to your baby, Learning, Language and books for young children, Understanding your child, Learning right from the beginning, Building your relationship as your child grows and many others.

The training session was highly applauded for its helpful ideas by the participants who are already busy transmitting the skills they gained to the wider Sudanese community. So far, more than 25 fathers and mothers have been recruited.

Parenting has proved to be a huge task particularly for single parents with a large number of children and especially worst when these parents speak little English. This is coupled with the cultural shock that many of them experience on a daily basis.

A massive party to celebrate the program’s success is scheduled to be held on November 22, 2008.

All over the world the youth play a significant role in bringing substantial socio-economic and political contribution for better governance. When the youth are organized it will be equally substantial for them to work towards the strengh of the nation. Therefore, our youth should be seriously and meaningfully involved right from the grassroots levels to contribute to the socio-economic and political development of our country. 'How can the youth be included in the decision-making process at this time?' asks one of the youth members. 'There are already many formal and informal youth organizations established to deal with these issues, I mean, the socio-economic and political issues. The question however, remains, how could the existing youth organizations integrate others who are not members into those organizations? Lamments one lady. It is very significant to involve the youth into the peace building process because they are the future leaders and administrators of our country. If they are not taking part effectively in today's socio-economic and political decision-making process then the future looks obligue for our country. We need to strengthen the youth now so that they can build a buffer state and a concrete socio-economic and political foundational fabric that will last for ever.

The time has come for our young men and women to form organizations that can directly be linked to our socio-economic and political institutions. These organizations can act as systems through which communicative and strategic actions can take place. Government officials, local council organizations, women's organizations and so forth should aspire for inclusive youth participation in politics that shape their understanding and lives. Apparently there are numerous small scale projects that are operational but are much more ineffective since they seem to focus on the individual, but not the collective and patriotic angles of our development. There is need to focus on the national benefits if we need a strong national integrety which is more supportive of our government's political initiatives. This is not to emphasize that the youth should take over political activities from the politicians. However, it is a call for mentorship of the youth so that when they mature they would know exactly what to do poltically.

We need to put our nation's interest first before individualistic intersts. We have to erradicate tribalism and move on as a unified strong people without prejudices and segregation. We can copy this form of political establishment from the west where everybody is treated equitably under the rule of law and the constitution irrespective of their genders and tribes. Where nepotism and corruption can be checked and balanced through transparent and fair judicial processes that are legetimately of everyone's interst and support. Transparent socio-economic and political system allows for accountability and responsibility so that when things go wrong individuals can reflect on the norms and rules enshrined in the system and peace will prevail. Thus, our youth should be meaningfully engaged in the socio-economic and political establishments right from the grassroots levels.

But there has been no full scale assaults. However, this days what was a shameful thing to do back then is now a something to do for pride. What happened recentey in Bahr el Ghazal is completely shameful to the Dinka as whole even though the the rest of the Dinka clans can blame it on those two clans who did it. As a matter of fact, the Dinka have to take this matter in hand to prevent a siminar thing to happen in the future.

This is dedicated to all Red Army worlds wide; if we

are silent for our future; who will be for our infant

Nation? And if all the Southerners are for self

interest who will surely be the determinant for our

innocent brothers and sisters to test the forgotten

right, and if not today! When shall we have the

bleeding hearts for the South Sudan?

Everywhere in the world either on individual

capacity or as group, talk much about the South Sudan

both in underground press and legal press. Much press

over the world wrote excitingly about the alternative

break of the 9th Jan. in Nyayo Stadium in

Nairobi-Kenya Peace ceremony. That was just a smile

only to show the white teeth to those who own the red

teeth about South.

Some of us may not even know where they belong.

What they do know is that they are part of South Sudan

and angry and restless over the condition of the

entire population of the South Sudan.

We have an identity, we are the seed of the South

(the terap of the south Sudan) we have never got lost

and we are no longer boys. In the world system we are

the youth, the hope of the south Sudan. The spirit of

red army (terap) has never change; we are not lost as

the world print in the papers. We know our course and

we have the legitimate reasons to accept the name lost

boys as an entrance and should not remain a rubber

stamp on us. We should find a way to restore our

identity under the name “terap” (the seeds of south

Sudan). The real course was to stimulate the

oppressors to recognize that something is happening in

the south and we are now about to start a real WAR.

We are south Sudanese; we want to live in the southern

state. This is our right, just as it is the right of

wild animals to live in the forest and right of camel

to live in the desert. We want to live in southern

Sudan and should not be an option to anyone. We cannot

only vote to convince the entire world that we are

southerners and we are different nation. It must start

now.

Freedom from tormenter is our vision; this is the

goal not only of our lives but also for the lives of

hundred generations, which precede us. We want our

children to study in schools in the national language

of southern Sudan, studying south Sudan history. We

want to have our independent flag, which descript our

real world and our national anthem, which talk about

the people and our beloved land.

What is wrong about south Sudanese having their right?

Is it a crime? They struggle for total freedom has

claim million of lives. We miss the lives of our

brothers, sisters, fathers, and our beloved

grandfathers who lost their lives in the hand of

ruthless enemy. They would be standing at our side now

For many years our grandfathers have tried to create a

free and just environment and free country for us but

their effort was sad news when the Arab dominated

authority or government of Sudan gave them death as a

price of our true land. The leaders were All killed

and William Deng, Ajang Duot, Jogaak Deng Malual pay

the first price at the hand of Arab. We are today

trying to forget the thousand lives lost in the

liberation struggle and we still count their beloved

soul as price of the south Sudan. We shall achieve the

courses that need our blood for it to be a land with

out discrimination. It is our right now and forever it

can always sleep but will never die.

All a long has been confusion guided by personal

interest, we are not going to ask for mercy or listen

to any voice that does not recognized the south Sudan

as legitimate nation. As long as we live, as long as

we feel the pain of discrimination, we shall dedicate

all our strength to get hold of an exit permit from

the Sudan subjugated by Arab to a new Sudan, which is

free from Islamic sharia law out of the North.

If the enemy should find it possible to do a way

with us, For this course, we shall anyway, if we live

long enough to be freed, be prepared even then to make

our way on foot to the homeland of our ancestors. It’s

most ironic: the self-hating southern Sudanese should

have died with the creating of the south Sudan. If the

event enacted in south region from 1970 and recently

situation of 1990s did not convince them of the blood

gut of their own people then we are not sure anything

would. But at this time of striking patriotism we

should be less than tolerant of any south Sudan who

opt the route of self-denial and submission. One could

sympathies with an individual who feel such

self-hatred and yet we are also entitle to denounce

them. How do we restore our unity?

1.All the Red Army from Pinyudo should create a

common website where we could assemble and recall the

past and plan for the future.

2.The same will apply to Red Army from Dimu,

Polataka, Moli, Itang and Bilpam.I hope we are not

unfortunate.

Your suggestion on how to find a common ground for the

idea is responsibility each one of us who is touch and

ready to create a different in our beloved infant

nation the South Sudan.

MEET TO DEMAND JOBS

By Gerry G. & L. Anthony

JUBA (30 March) - About 142 Southern Sudanese youth returnees from East and South Africa and others from Khartoum last Saturday gathered for a meeting at Toto Chan Hall, demanding the Government of Southern Sudan and Non- Governmental Organizations to give them jobs.

The returnees fled the country during the 21years civil war between the SPLA and the Khartoum Government where they acquired qualifications in different fields as university graduates and secondary school leavers. Now that peace has come, they decided to come back home to participate in the reconstruction and building of the country.

Some of them say they have been on the streets for over a year now without getting any job simply due to what they termed as “technical know-who” practiced by government and some NGO employers instead of “technical know-how” which they possess. According to Becu David, a 24 year-old Diploma holder, the government seem to entertain old staff as he was once told, “You are too young to work in an office.

You still need to be taken care of by your mother.” Another serious challenge they meet in job seeking is the issue of experience as a major requirement for any advert. “An applicant must have at least five years experience, ten years experience, etc. as if there is a school for experience,” Michael Sungu expressed. “Tribalism, nepotism, favoritism and sectarianism is being practiced by employers in Juba. We want a change. They should consider us because we are not here by mistake, this is our country,” job seeker Susan Kaku adds.

Protest for work

The job seekers are threatening to demonstrate soon if the government does not look into their grievances, “We will soon make a serious demonstration because there are old men who want to die in the government offices instead giving youth a chance,” says one of the seekers who prefers anonymity.

End.

Dear Gurtongers,

Their concerns are legitimate. The notion that suggest young people are too young to lead, handle administrative or office responsibilities are bias. After all, it is the young people that nations rely on at any given time, including wars'. Histories of South Sudan's struggle attest to that. Moreover, nobody is born with experience. Experience is acquired through learning and time. Experiences differ and one must not think his experience is far significant if he or she does not value that of others. It is through diverse attained experiences that people progress, enhance their living standards and build nations etc…

It must also be clear that only in backward societies youths' skills are deemed insignificant. But who will build the nation? Are we not asking our people to go back home and participate in the process of PeaceBuilding, construction and development of our war-ravaged land? What skills are we looking for if we fail to utilize what we already have?

The war is not over yet…we need to keep our youths engaged at close-ranges because when war breaks out, it will likely be non other than these 'trivial' youths to confront the enemy and shoulder most of the wars burdens like many did including the elders of today who were once young people of their own rights but not necessarily blocked from acquiring jobs or participating in the peoples' struggle.

There are many ways to maintain the youth's dynamics and keep them proactive and productive. Let them be given chance to be effective agents of change which will not happen without their partaking.

Their effectiveness and powers must not be underestimated. They are the backbone of our nation.

I hope our Government will consider their grievances.

Condemnation of the SPLM Youth League Election

DATE: July 29, 2007

TO: H.E. SALVA KIIR MAYARDIT

FIRST VICE PRESIDENT OF SUDAN, PRESIDENT GOVERNMENT OF

SOUTH SUDAN, CHAIRMAN OF SPLM AND COMMANDER IN CHIEF

        OF THE SPLA

Cc: SPEAKER OF SOUTHERN SUDAN LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY

Cc: SPLM GENERAL SECRETARY

Cc: DEPUTY SECRETARY FOR SOUTHERN SECTOR

Cc: SECRETARY FOR EXTERNAL AFFAIRS

Cc: SECRETARY FOR POPULAR AND SYNDICATED ORGANISATIONS

Cc: SECRETARY FOR POLITICAL AND ORGANISATION AFFAIRS

Cc: SECRETARY FOR INFORMATION AND CULTURE

Cc: CHIEF SECURITY, SOUTHERN COOPERATION SECTOR

SUBJECT: CONDEMNATION OF THE SPLM YOUTH LEAGUE ELECTION

The SPLM youth have been waiting for the time when the SPLM youth representatives from Boma, Payam, County and the STATES to the National Level will come so that they elect who they think can lead them as stipulated in the SPLM Basic Rule. This process however has been highly waited for, to take place in the respective areas by those who want to participate in the SPLM affairs but in vain. Few days ago after the SPLM Chapters International Conference ended, we learnt that Akol Paul and Martin Majut have invited youth from all the ten STATES to attend a training workshop. The delegates were tend by Akol Paul and Martin Majut and use them to carry out the SPLM Youth League election on July 28, 2007 at the Nile Resort Camp. Election went on and Akol Paul won.

We condemn this election and call those behind it to cancel it and follow the right procedures which are in conformity with the SPLM Basic Rules and Regulations, because of the followings reasons:

The representatives were not chosen based on the SPLM rules of representation where ones must be send from Boma to Payam to County to State and then to the National level. They were just hand picked by Martin Majut in conjunction with SPLM State Secretaries who hold SPLM positions and don’t practice SPLM basic rules and regulations. The last time Akol went to his constituent in Rumbek was in early 2006, all this time he was in Nairobi. How did he by pass all the procedures that one follows to reach the SPLM National Level without going home where they are done. The answer is that, the Lakes State SPLM Secretary just appointed him in Nairobi direct to Juba. Is that not a violation of SPLM Basic Rules and Regulations?

The electoral committee composes of Martin Majut, organizers and Akol Paul himself. Akol, apart from being a candidate, was the one setting out the election rules. Where on earth has it ever happened that a candidate contesting for the seat is also the one chairing or even participating in electoral committee. Akol was threatening the delegates to crawl back to their respective States if they don’t vote for him and he promised not to provide the air ticket for those who will not vote for him.

Many high profile SPLM members and leaders who organized this election use their public positions to intimidate voters to vote for Akol. They had restricted the number of contestants for the chairmanship so that Akol win without any pressure from his opponents. The organizers had also refused to give other candidate a chance to campaign before the election so that he can sell his policy to the voters. What the body, that was responsible for this election did is a clear violation of the SPLM INTERIM BASIC RULES AND REGULATIONS; ARTICLE EIGHT- Number one. Which state that “A member of the organization has the right to elect and be elected to any of the various offices and structures of the organization”. This act by those who organized this election, has also led to the violation of ARTICLE 22- 4(g). i.e.

4- The following conduct by a member shall constitute misconduct in respect of which disciplinary proceedings may be invoked and instituted against him or her. g) - “Behaving in such a way as to provoke serious divisions or a break down of unity in the Organization”. The intimidation of the delegates not to exercise their rights to vote for who they want by the electoral organizers, has caused division to the extend that some SPLM members expresses pulling out of the Party or abandon anything related to SPLM if it has become a property of few individuals who has got certain political power in the government.

Even if the election were free and fair, it has still violated the ARTICLE 11 OF THE SPLM BASIC RULES AND REGULATIONS. According to this article, we first have to elect the Interim States and National Councils before electing the Youth League Chairman.

Apart from the Yei NATIONAL INTERIM POLITICAL BUREAU meeting which set up all the SPLM Secretariats, no any member of the secretariat was mandated to impose or organize the youth in a way that is not in conformity with SPLM Basic Rules and Regulations. So Martin Majut who was trust with task of organizing the youth for the National Convention where they will elect their National Youth leaders, fail us on July 28, 2007 when he hand pick the delegates and brought them for the election, instead of getting the delegates through the methodology stipulated in the SPLM Basic Rules and Regulations. That is from BOMA to PAYAM to COUNTY to STATE and then to the NATIONAL Level.

Akol Paul Kordit, before he can be elected again to other public office, he must account for all New Sudan Youth Association (NSYA) assets. So apart from the irregularities in this election, Akol is not fit to lead the SPLM youth again due to his past corrupt practices in NSYA where he was running the institution which people put him in against very people that chooses him there. Very few among us can be bribe by Akol Paul to forget the Methodist Guest House in Nairobi incident where Akol uses foreign police forces to dispatch an assembly that has called their leader to either deliver the Constitution or leave the office for those who are fit to deliver us our Constitution. Another incident I believe you can not forget is the meeting at Railway Club were the general assembly called former NSYA finance secretary Mr. John Biar Atem and Akol Paul to brief the assembly on what went wrong with NSYA finances that has brought a great misunderstanding between Akol and Biar. Biar came and Akol refuses to come. Since then, Akol has never initiated to call the assembly and account for all NSYA assets. Many attempts by youth to call him have either been dispersed by police or he refuses to come.

It may be a common practice to ridge in most of the elections held. But the call for democracy must always prevail. It should be brought into the attention of the SPLM Leadership as a ruling party that this culture of democratic governance must be practice effectively in the activities of the Party without fear or favor. It should be noted that the SPLM Secretary for Popular and Syndicated Organizations had sided with the former alleged chairman of NYSA  for the scandal to intimidate the innocent participants in the workshop and forcefully carried out unfair elections in which the Electoral Organizers  emerged unanimously with  Mr. Akol Paul as a candidate.  Furthermore, the electoral Organizers designed some elections rules that favored him as mentioned below;

Election was done through the raise of hands which many participants disputed and opt for the secret ballot but the organizers refused. The SPLM Constitution clearly put it that, all the elections must be through the secret ballot.

As usual in many elections, when people are voting, the candidates they are voting for has to go out and they should not be in the voting hall. But for this case, Akol Paul was allowed to still stay in as people vote for him.

We the under signed members ask the SPLM Leadership to cancel the election and tell the STATES Secretaries or form a committee with a mandate of one month to bring new representatives elected using the methodology stipulated in the SPLM Constitution and Basic Rules and Regulations, because it was done in serious violation to the SPLM Basics Rules and Regulations. If you don’t encourage corruption, then you better allow Akol Paul or persuade him since you are the one harboring him, to account for what he did in New Sudan Youth Association (NSYA). Akol Paul as we all knows during his leadership in NSYA, he using his relationship to the SPLM leadership to undermind other SPLM members who are not of his standard. He has no respect for the leaders and elders of the party. We are not opposing the election Akol Paul as youth league chairman, if he was elected in a manner compatible with the SPLM Laws, we would respect his leadership and wait until the next election comes. But the manner in which he steal our leadership need to be reverse if we stand by the rules we signed as a party. Before we take any action that may discourage the Party Harmony, we beg you to treat this matter with seriousness it deserves. We will not stop our operations to reverse this election but your action will help us reach a peaceful solution.

Here Are Three Questions for You to Answer:

1. How many athletic “wannabes” (a wannabe is an avid fan who tries to emulate professional athletes, especially in appearance; a “want to be”)—how many of these NEVER end up signing with a professional team?

A good guess is that only one in 10,000 actually “make it” to the pros. If we take that guess as an estimate, then 9,999 out of 10K do not get there. If you have a calculator handy, just crunch 9,999 times the number professional athletes who have played or are currently playing. (Include all the players on all the pro teams in your favorite sport.)

9,999 times x = ?	. That’s just a good guess at how many do not make it, but it gives you something to think about.

2. How many wannabes actually FINISHED college, having learned real-world marketable skills, and are now well-equipped to pursue an alternative occupation?

And Finally,

3. How many pro-athlete wannabes have been on welfare, or served time in prison?

These are some questions to think about, to determine how to invest your time and effort now.

Keep in mind that scouts for professional sports teams can and do collect 10,000’s of youths from poor neighborhoods (and from poor countries), knowing already that most will never make it. The one (out of 10,000) who really does turn pro will be able to pay off the team’s investments in time and money.

As for the rest, the wannabes, the other 9,999 out of every 10K who will never play pro, well, “uh, you know, uh, I mean, uh, you know, you know, you know, . . .”

A Genuine Cry For A Decent Man!

I pray that I get a wife who is not a dot com

By James Mabor*

Nairobi, Kenya

I wish to express my views about the way our ladies of the younger generation have adopted western lifestyles. The concern here is the modernization which our ladies have misunderstood and misinterpreted particularly here in Kenya. In their understanding of modernity, they wear cloths, particularly tight trousers which are not only embarrassing but constitute an affront to our culture, a culture which underlines dignity and respectability.

As the matter of fact, our young ladies have adapted what I would term as body exposure dresses and keep painting their lips several times a day. This was what I once witnessed at a wedding I was invited to in Nairobi. I could not believe that I was among my fellow Sudanese. In conversation I was told that they are the so called dot com generation in a free world and I should not therefore bother. In their free world they do not bother about our cultural values. They drank and smoked freely.

As I reflected later, it dawned on me that I should seek God’s intervention to give me a wife who has been locked indoor and brought up by her parents, as am a youth who never know who and where to marry in advance. I am neither a traditionalist or against civilization but I believe there should be a balancing act somewhere. As ladies seek to be awarded 25 per sent of positions in government as stipulated in the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, I hope that they will carry themselves in a respectable manner with dignity as public officers, as they serve our people.

I appeal to women leaders in GOSS and the church to pick this issue as their agenda. Meanwhile I love you all for you are my sisters.

The question is how do we contribute to the development, whether positive or otherwise?

From the look of things, our leaders are putting patience as their yardstick. Fine thing indeed, at least when things filled up in heaps, sorting them back to normality while bringing back the underneath to surface will not only require unnatural patience, but will demand upon our heads, a task whose exercise calls for a greater deal of will and effort.

On the overall, there seems to me and most probably to others that we, in South Sudan have opened up all the fundamental gates of life: socio-economic and political spheres to foreigners and anti-SPLM.

The undisputed danger lies ahead of SPLM due to its methods of recruitment. To show its commitment to peace and harmony to prosperity, it incorporated and disseminated to people and ideas from those they cross-fire recently before the CPA, with less double-sided analysis on an assumption that we all work for the betterment of the nation.

While it is worth recommending, at least for a sane, that a meaningful organization that carries the national candle should work with oppositions, this mean the known oppositions, it is more than early for the young Movement to merge implicit oppositions.

'A snake', says a Dinkaman, 'never dies until it is head cut'. The insurgencies, both in Malakal few days ago and today's crisis in Juba are conspicuous manoeuvres by NCP to overthrow the agreement just signed before the ink that signs it dries on the paper.

The question that people are struggling with (employing own-people) is not what seems on the basis of probability to be the case: assuming that is what people are saying. The question should be what are these people doing at all? If what is said is elusive, take another case of this gentlemen called Pagan Amum. If he decided one night to recruit all people from the village he comes from until no one is left to fish for the elderly and give them jobs from office cleaner to Secretary General that he heads. We in my opinion, will first fold our hands and watch them working seven native days a week!

And if they do as he (Pagan) tirelessly did, we will tell him to bring even the elderly to give us the service we need. It is a question of an output.

As far as my prophetic eyes can see, the majority of corrupts, inefficient, inciters of war, and lazy are SPLM foes masquerading as patriots and are busy exploiting every unfortunate event to tarnish and darken the Movement name for their own political end not too far from now. Surprisingly, the Administration goes underground for reasons only gracious God in heaven knows.

If there is anything we can remember of our late hero, Dr.John Garang, then let us recollect one thing. He was quick to say that we should 'frog-leap into the 21ist century'. There is a category that may not need to frog-jump further because it looks like its already the case now, but must have a mechanism through which all of us can frog-leap collectively.
