JUBA, 22 April 2015 [Gurtong] - The Sudan People’s Liberation Army high command has ordered army officers not to wear their military uniforms when off duty.

This order comes after it has been noted that criminals in Juba are now wearing army uniforms and other organized forces uniforms to attack and rob citizens of their belongings at their residence or in public.

The Director for Information and Public Relations, Brig. Gen. Malaak Ayuen Ajok said, “This is to notify the public that it has been observed recently that most of the crimes taking place in Juba are committed by persons wearing uniforms of SPLA and other organized forces.”

“The SPLA Military High Command would like to clearly inform the public that those people are criminals who camouflage themselves in military uniforms with intention to loot public property and cause mayhem in the city,” Malaak said in a press statement.

According to Malaak any unauthorized persons found wearing SPLA uniforms shall be arrested, charged under forgery section and tried by SPLA General Court Martial.

“In order to avoid this, the SPLA military High Command is here by issuing an order prohibiting any person who is not in active service to wear SPLA uniforms. This category includes SPLA officers in reserve, wounded heroes and those officers employed or seconded to civil or political institutions,” Gen. Malaak continued.

He said the military police is therefore instructed to check and verify those suspected whenever seen in military uniforms, adding, “The intention is to maintain order and expose the criminals.”
