WAU – August 23, 2016 [Gurtong] – Governor Acho made his public announcement while address the state government officials, youth and faith groups on the state first steps toward peace with those fighting the government.
“This is the start, I call all the intellectuals, chiefs and the government from the various levels, commissioners and cabinet ministers, including the state commanding officers in order to start the launching of dialogue with these armed opposition forces in the state”.
The governor said he had briefed members of his government on the progressive matter to hold the peace talks aiming at ending the suffering of the citizens since the rebellion started in 2012 in former Western Bahr el Ghazal state.
Acho said, after the formation of the committee that would go and meet the opposition group, that the faith group are the most viable figures that would be first consider in the committee.
“We are going to use the religious groups in this peace process plan like what was done in Pibior with cobra faction and the arrow boys in Western Equatoria, areas where peace has now been achieved”, said Acho.
The governor also said he had met with the South Sudan President Salva Kiir over the matter and that his peace approach was clearly endorsed by him, giving him a go ahead with the peace process in the region.
“We will send the faith groups as an advance team first to go and meet these people in order for them to explain their demands and what would be the ground solutions and if they return. The state government will again form an inclusive high-level committee that will go back to meet them on the peace talks,” he said.
