Wau State Authority Warns Public Over Illegal Occupation of Railway Land

Wau State authority on Tuesday ordered all residents occupying land that has been allocated for the railway station to vacate the premises immediately.

WAU 02 November 2016 [Gurtong] –The warning follows complains by the railway station staff after writing a petition letter to the State government complaining of military officials grabbing land and settling within the area.

Government officials on Tuesday led by the Minister for Agriculture James Joseph who doubles as the Acting Minister of Physical Infrastructure, Information, and Communication together the Wau town Mayor Mel Aleu, among others visited Wau Railway cooperation station to meet the station workers over the alarming situation.

The Wau town Mayor Mel Aleu Goc said anyone who has set up structures at the station has done so illegally and is therefore ordered to leave the railway station.

“This morning when we came here, I received the petition from the workers of the railway station written by the manager. The petition mentioned land grapping that took place in addition to some assets that were here. The assets were taken, by some soldiers,” said Mel.

“We have also seen some concrete building within the compound of the Railway station, all in all, we want to assure our citizens that our people who have occupied the Railway station land to evacuate the land because these are the properties of the government and the properties of the Railway station that cannot be used in such a way,” said Mel.

The State Information Minister, Bona Gaudensio said that the state council of minister will handle the matter.
