CTSAMM Team Successfully Reaches Yei Town

The Ceasefire and Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring Mechanism (CTSAMM)said its Monitoring and Verification Team (MVT) has finally been given access to Yei following denial of access on Monday.

JUBA, 01 December 2016 [Gurtong]- The CTSAMM said it followed due process and notified the authorities, including the Joint Military Ceasefire Commission, on November 1st of their intention to travel to the area and had received assurances that access would be granted.

“The CTSAMM team have now successfully carried out their journey and reached Yei Town today, the 30th November, 2016. The team will now undertake a five-day mission in the area.” CTSAMM has said.

 The CTSAMM is operating according to processes and accords which have been agreed to by the former warring Parties, regional and international partners.

“On Monday 28th November, 2016, a CTSAMM Monitoring and Verification Team (MVT), were denied freedom of movement while trying to reach Yei to conduct an assessment of the area and carry out its mandated activities” CTSAMM said in a statement issued to Gurtong on Monday.

“Following recent events in which a CTSAMM team were prevented from travelling to Yei by Government authorities the team have since been allowed to travel to the area after multiple discussions between the CTSAMM leadership and the authorities” said CTSAMM.
