Tonj State Cattle Keepers Leaving Wau’s Forest Due To Security Threats

Tonj State Governor Akec Tong Aleu has said that cattle keepers who used to graze their cattle in the green forests of Wau State are leaving the area following numerous attacks by alleged rebels.

By James Deng Dimo

WAU, 27 January 2017 [Gurtong] - “We directed them to return to Tonj immediately due to insecurity threat on the cattle herders since clashes have been taking place in the area since last week,” said Aleu.

“What is happening on the cattle keepers is the rebels attacking them of which cattle keepers should distance themselves away from such threats.”

He said the police have been directed to facilitate the return of the cattle peacefully.

Since last week, the death toll in the clash between the cattle keepers and the said rebels have reached more than 6 people including two local community inhabitants and many houses have been burnt down.
