WAU, 13 February 2017 [Gurtong] - Mel said the move was taken after the council realised that the prices of fuel has drastically increase in the past two days in the town.
“We have recently detected the raising of fuel prices in Wau town to an extent that the price of one barrel of petrol has reached 50,000 SSP and 1.5 container of petrol reached 300. Following this we launched a search operation for fuel within the town and we founded that traders have stored plenty of fuel in different stores selling it a high profit gain in the black markets and also are exporting the fuel in a different system,” said Mel.
Mel said that one of the trucks was detained at the Eastern Bank while on its way to a petrol station.
“What we need especially from the fuel dealers is to sell their fuel through fuel stations. Now I have formed a committee to review the fuel price and agreed with trade unions and sell this fuel through fuel stations. People should use the fuel station,” Mel said.
The Mayor said that most of the fuel was found in Abheim-Nhom Company in Zocklona.
“We have seized that truck and it is now with me at the Municipal Council. I have also formed a committee led by my deputy for administration and presence of all security agencies such that this fuel will be taken to fuel stations for selling,” he said.
He warned those hoarding fuel in the State that anybody found guilty will face the law.
