Youth In Western Lakes Agree To Shun Violence
Western Lakes State Gelwong youth from rival sections of Nyang and Jeth of Matangai and Mayom Payams in a 2-day community peace dialogue organized by community empowerment for progress organization CEPO resolved to stop violence and put aside their differences so as to co-exist peacefully.

RUMBEK, 28 February 2017 [Gurtong]-Speaking during the community peace dialogue at Rumbek Freedom Square, the Governor of Western Lakes State, Abraham Makoi Bol urged both sides to commit to the agreement in order for peace to prevail.
“This peace dialogue belongs to all Agar community to unite. Peace has so prevailed in all parts of Agar community starting from Rumbek East among members of the Gelwong youth, Rup and Pakam and finally today it is between Nyang and Jeth sections.”
Abraham Makoi Bol urged residents of the State particularly those who have been hurt by inter-communal violence to forgive one another and embark on peace and prepare for cultivation.
He also called upon UNMISS and humanitarian organizations in Rumbek to support IDPs with food supply and renovation of roads connecting Pakam and the State capital.
Deng Cithok who hails from the Nyang section urged the Jeth section to return to their original homes of residence without fear.
Mr. Deng said that they will cooperate with the government of the State in apprehending criminals who may want to jeopardize the peace between Jeth and Nyang sections.
Matur Makuac , a Gelwong Youth leader of the Jeth sections promised that his section will not conflict with the neighboring community of Nyang again.
The following were the resolutions and recommendations of the peace dialogue.
1- Anybody making an attempt for revenge killing or raiding cattle must be apprehended.
2- The two sections resolved and agreed to settle side by side in one residential area as before.
3- Intermarriage to resume
4- Displaced people to returns to their villages and homes of origin for cultivations.
5- Voluntarily disarmament to begin immediately.
