WAU, 08 March 2017 [Gurtong] –“His Lordship Deng Majak is an icon of peaceful coexistence and a friend of the poor people. Deng supported many young people to pursue their studies especially those from poor families who were in Sudan and those in South Sudan. He also contributed a lot during the referendum of South Sudan, his death is a great loss to South Sudan at large,” said Robo.
“Bishop has many friends among the different ethnic communities within his Diocese of Wau including Muslims. He also had strong respect for civil authority and because of that many government official respected him too even the government of Sudan, he was a simple peaceful man and friendly to his people,” said bishop.
Robo said during the long struggle for independence, Bishop played a very positive role to keep faith in Wau alive and strong amidst the islamization of Khartoum Government.
He said Bishop Majak played a very powerful role in defusing ethnic conflict in his diocese as a spiritual leader. He always said "God will judge us based on our actions not on our tribes or positions,” said Robo.
“It is true that he has gone but he will always remain in the hearts of people of Wau and entire South Sudan communities; may his soul rest in eternal peace,” said Robo.
