Death Toll Rises In Wau, As Many Are Still Unaccounted For After Monday Attack
After confirmation of 16 people being killed on Monday in Wau town, reports suggest that the number could be more than that as many are still complaining of missing family members.
WAU, 12 April 2017 [Gurtong] – On Monday morning, 16 civilians were killed after fighting spread to Wau town in an attack believed to have been launched by rebel forces.
The 16 bodies all civilian, killed inside Wau town were still lying at a post-mortem ward in Wau teaching hospital on Tuesday morning.
On Sunday evening, a military convoy during an operation fell into an ambush along Bessilia road to Wau town killing two Generals from the 5th Division, Brigadier General, Abraham Bol Chut Dhuol and Brigadier General Peter Par.
The death of General Abraham Bol Chut Dhuol who is a brother to Governor Matur Chut of Lakes State sparked tensions in Wau.
Since then, thousands of citizens have fled their homes into UN PoC sites seeking for protection.
The killing of the two Generals came a day after the SPLA launched heavy offensive into rebels’ strong holds with SPLA taking control of Bagari on Saturday.
