The rising insecurity in Imatong State, Torit has sparked fears in the town with residents being forced to be inside their homes before 8 PM to avoid being mistaken for a criminal by night patrol guards.

TORIT, 11 November 2017 [Gurtong] – Houses are being looted, properties stolen and lives lost during night robberies.

On Tuesday a Food and Agricultural Organization's Driver, was attacked and killed in his home in Torit at Hai Khorton residential area.

The same night a body guard to one of the politicians in the State, fired bullets randomly at people, killing two including a 16 year old girl at Hai Lotuko residential area. Many others were wounded during the incident.

Police Chief Inspector, Major General Jeremiah Fadiri told the media that the suspect was acting under the influence of alcohol.

In the night of Wednesday, the government Patrol forces clashed with allegedly armed opposition group near Kineti River adjacent to the State Ministry of Physical Infrastructure. The two exchanged fire leaving two dead from both sides.

General Gildo Oling Baranya who heads and commands the SPLA in Eastern Equatoria, confirmed to the media that the armed men laid an ambush on the joint patrol team who were on night duty.

The government has appealed to residents to cooperate with security organs in an effort to arrest the security situation in the area.
