Though the cause of the fire outbreak inside the civilians’ protection site at the UN base in Wau remains unclear, no casualties were reported according to the site management.

The camp manager, Juma Suleiman told Gurtong on Tuesday that the IDPs have been warned from using candles inside the shelters.

“After this incident now, what we are telling our people at the camp is they have to stay away from unnecessary use of lighting candles inside their shelters, this is too dangerous to a place like this congested protection site,” he said.

“They also must always keep some reserve water in the house for any emergency,” he said.

The UN civilians’ protection site is the largest site in the country hosting a total of number 31,856 people seeking for protection according to the United Nation Mission in South Sudan.
