JUBA, 24 November 2017 [Gurtong] -Addressing journalist at the army headquarters on Thursday, Koang accused the rebel forces of carrying out offensives on the SPLA-IO forces in Rup-Kuai.

“There are renewed clashes this morning (Thursday morning). Hostile forces attacked SPLA-IO under the leadership of Taban Deng Gai defensive positions at Rup-Kuai, so it is ongoing,” he said.

But he said the forces under Taban Dng Gai are in full control of Rup-Kuai, disputing early reports by the rebels that it had taken control of the town.

On Thursday, Machar’s spokesperson was quoted by some media houses as saying its forces killed 28 government forces when they clashed in Southern Liech State.

But Lul said fighters loyal to the former First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar first attacked SPLA-IO positions at Rup-Kuai which prompted a tactical withdrawal. He said a day later, a successful counter attack was launched and the town was recaptured by the SPLA-IO.

According to Lul, five SPLA-IO soldiers were shot and wounded during the offensives for the control Rup-Kuai.

On the weekly security update, Lul said a total of 22 rebel fighters were killed in the course of the week in separate clashes between the rebels and the SPLA forces in about seven of the 32 States.

He added that during the course of the engagement with the rebel forces, the SPLA managed to recover 10 AKm-47 assault rifles and one rocket propelled grenade from the rebels.

Lul said in the past week, the rebels have intensified attacks on the government defensive positions in 7 of the 32 States.
