RUMBEK, 11 December 2017 [Gurtong]-Speaking during the ceremony, the representative of the association, Rebeca Yar Dor said that the building is intended to empower women and girls in social, economic, political and cultural activities in Lakes States.

“We thank VISTAS for having officially handed over the new building which will help women to do their trainings and meetings. Every activity that we are planning and we are going do, we will be doing here under this new building,” said Yar Dor.

Dor appreciated VISTAS for their involvement and participating in peace buildings processes and developmental activities in greater Lakes States.

She appealed to VISTAS to equip the women resources center with computers, public latrines and provide water.

“We have a lot of challenges such as lack of water for drinking, latrine and computers. The two computers which VISTAS has given us are not enough for use but we can start with them.” said Dor.

She said, the women resources center will develop and provide women with capacity building across Lakes State.

The Regional Program Manager for VISTAS in Lakes State, Richard Obwaya urged the women to make proper use of the women resource center.

“We didn’t wake up one day and started to build it, we had several meetings and workshops with the women association across the entire Lakes States and it took almost a full year to reach the position or reach a level where we came to understand what is the most immediate needs for women in this State to be in a better position where they can advocates for it.  The construction of this building was part of the few recommendation we picked from the resolutions women reached and after accomplishing this, we hope the other resolutions or recommendation will follow” said Richard.
