Kiir Reshuffles Top Army Generals

President Kiir has sacked and replaced four top army generals in a series of presidential decrees read on South Sudan Broadcasting Corporation (SSBC) television on Thursday evening.

JUBA, 15 December 2017 [Gurtong]-The Commander-in-Chief of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), General Kiir relieved Lieutenant General Malek Ruben Riak, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces, and Inspector General of the army; Lt Gen. Dr. Malual Ayom, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces for Operations, Training and Intelligence, Lt Gen. Mangar Bong Aluong, Assistant Chief of Defence Forces for Administration, Personnel and Finance, and Lt Gen. Charles Lam Chol, Commander of the Air Force and Air Defence Forces.

Kiir also promoted Major General Santino Deng Wol to the rank of Lt. General and relieved as commander of SPLA third infantry division. He is appointed as Commander of Ground Forces.
Major General Charles Dut Akol is promoted to the rank of Lt. General, and appointed Assistant Chief of Defence Forces for Logistics and Procurement.

Lt Gen. Gabriel Jok Riak is promoted to take up the position of Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Inspector General (DCDF & IG) while Lt Gen. Marial Chanuong relieved as Commander of Ground Forces and appointed Assistant Chief of Defence Forces for Operations, Training and Intelligence.

Lt Gen. Johnson Juma who was relieved as deputy commander of Ground Forces was appointed Assistant Chief of Defence Forces for Administration, Personnel and Finance.
Lt Gen. James Kong Kong appointed as commander of Air Force.
