Peace Corps Hold Workshop On Hygiene And Sanitation

Peace Corps South Sudan operating in Eastern Lakes State, This week conducted a two-day training workshop on hygiene and sanitation program in Nyang County of Eastern Lakes State.

YIROL, 08 February 2018 [Gurtong]-The training was attended by over one hundred participants including, teachers and parents in Yirol East Counties and focused on hygiene, cholera prevention, life skills and nutrition.

Addressing participants during the opening remarks the Project Officer of Yirol East County, Mabor Bol Gech said Peace Corps has been rehabilitating latrines and constructing new latrines in schools in Eastern Lakes State.

Nyang County Education Acting Director, Moses Sunday Thou emphasized that the teachers be agents of change in the community and take the message received back to their communities.

“Teachers should be the ones taking the information to the community about diseases like cholera and other diseases,” said Sunday.

Tabu Khalil, a teacher from Nyang primary school said. “In this training we have gained lot knowledge particularly on the topic of life skills, nutrition and prevention of cholera.”

Christine Puor Jurel , an Education Project Officer for Peace Corps said teachers should be role models by teaching ways of maintain hygiene.

“We want our teachers to be the role models of our society by giving our children the sanitation that we want in the community and good education”, said Christine.
