2nd Annual Education Conference Held In Western Lakes State

The Ministry of General Education and Instruction in Western Lakes State held the 2nd Annual Education Conference, under the theme ‘together we eradicate illiteracy and prove quality education’ on Monday.

The conference was attended by County Education Directors and Senior Officials of the Ministry of Education from the 11 Counties in the State.

Speaking during the conference in Rumbek on Monday, the Minister of Finance who is was the guest of Honor, Kuol Daniel Ayielo urged the teachers to provide adequate teaching to the students across Western Lakes State.

The Guest of Honor, Daniel Kuol in his statement officially rewarded and promoted the long serving professional Teacher, Martin Majak Mohammed with grade one special in the Ministry of Education and twenty thousand South Sudanese Pound as a reward for his dedication and contribution to education.

“We will not forget our long serving professional teacher, Mr. Martin Majak Mohammed who had dedicated his time and energy to deliver services to the people of Western Lakes State since 1952,” he said.

However, the 2nd annual education conference also raised a number of challenges facing teachers, from both secondary and primary school.

Among the top challenges raised during the discussion includes lack of enough space for the construction of primary schools in the villages, insecurity, early marriages and forced marriages of school girls as well as community contribution fee.

The Director of Education in Eastern Bahr Naam County, Chol Abiel said that some of the community based schools have got no space because the community members have denied to give land for schools.

Mr. Abiel appreciated the support and role played by the education partners such as WFP, Save the Children, UNICEF and UNDP in Western Lakes State.

The Minister for General Education and Instruction, Dut Makoi Kuok praised the hard work and contribution of teachers to educate children in Western Lakes State during the critical time of economic hardship.
