RUMBEK, 22 February 2018 [Gurtong]-Addressing the masses in Rumbek Freedom Square during his reception on Tuesday, the Governor acknowledged and appreciated the prayers of those who wished him well in his search for good health.

He expressed his dissappointment over the continuous fighting and revenge killings in his State that left more than one hundred people dead in intra-communal feuds.

“Today during the briefing, I received reports of 150 people confirmed dead and unknown number of people wounded during the fighting which took place in my absence in Western Lakes State.” he said.

He urged Western Lakes State residents to comply with the State of emergency declared last year by President Salva Kiir and the disarmament exercise that was launched by the general Chief of Staff, James Ajonga Mawut in January this year.

“We are appealing to all of you, particularly those carrying arms to hand over their guns peacefully to the army and any group found resisting the disarmament exercise will be dealt with accordingly. Time has come for all the arms in Western Lakes State to be collected from the Gelwong . There is no more talks again and awareness.  This is a time for disarmament and that’s why there is presence of the military and disarmament is taking place. No part of greater Lakes State will remain untouched during the disarmament exercise,” Matur Chut said.

He assured the Population of Western Lakes State that the process of disarmament will not end after three months, but will be a continuous program until all illegal arms are collected from the hands of civilians particularly the Gelwong youth.

“The SPLA army will search all placeswhere arms are being hidden, even though you pretend; we shall still get you and disarm you. It is better you hand over your gun peacefully without wasting time, “said Matur.

Matur also issued a warning against those who were opposing the promotion of Rumbek Town into a Municipality.
