JUBA, 17 September 2018 [Gurtong]-The government and the other armed opposition groups signed the Revitalized Agreement on resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan last week in the Ethiopian Capital Addis Ababa.

In a statement issued on Saturday, President Kiir said with the agreement, the war in South Sudan has ended.

“I want to personally assure you that the agreement we have signed has ended the war. Your suffering provided the primary motivation for this agreement to pursue peace by all means necessary,” Kiir said. “I am aware of the fact that many of you remain weary and skeptical, questioning whether there is a political will to implement this agreement. You have been let down many times before, but let me assure you, this government will take unprecedented measures and this Agreement will be implemented in letter and spirit,” President Kirr assured the citizens.

Following the agreement and reports of alleged ceasefire violations in the Yei River State of former Central Equotoria area, many people raised concerns on whether the agreement will not be violated.

However, President Kiir said, “We welcome any scepticism because it will only fuel our resolve to consolidate peace in our country. Where we may be concerned is when skeptics become spoilers to the peace process just to prove their doom prophesies.”

He also promised to ensure that conditions in the country improve for the millions displaced as refugees to return to South Sudan.

“I want to assure our citizens in those (neighbouring) countries that your government has not forsaken you and that we will do everything in our power and ability to return you home and to help you rebuild your lives. I want to assure you that we will not allow anyone to subject you to such situations once again,” President Kiir said.

The President said the voices of the citizens are heard loud and clear through the National Dialogue, and that and their recommendations shall guide the actions of the government.

“I call upon all of you to continue to engage the National Dialogue Steering Committee and express your views unreservedly,” Kiir added.
