JUBA, 18 September 2018 [Gurtong]-After an Extra-Ordinary Council of Ministers meeting on Tuesday chaired by President Kiir on Tuesday, the Government Spokesperson, Michael Makuei Lueth told reporters that President Kiir extended an invitation to the opposition leaders in order to restore trust and confidence.

This comes after the former warring parties singed the Revitalized Agreement on Resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (RARCSS) a week ago in the Ethiopian Capital Addis Ababa.

Information Minister Makuei revealed that President Kiir had on Monday made a telephone conversation with Machar over reported clashes between the government and the oppositions in Yei town.

“During his phone call discussion with Dr. Machar, President Salva Kiir invited Machar and the other groups as a matter of confidence building,” Information Minister Makuei said.

“He invited them to come and spend two to three days here in Juba under the President’s protection so that they can see for themselves after which they will go back,” he added.

Makuei said the opposition groups said they will look in to the president’s invitation.

President Kiir is also expected to travel to Khartoum this Friday to celebrate the signed peace Agreement with leaders of the other opposition groups. The celebration is organized by the government of Sudan which helped broker parts of the agreement.

“The Sudan government is celebrating the signing of the peace agreement. The negotiating team is invited to go to Khartoum on Thursday and the president will follow on Friday morning so that the celebrations are done over there in presence of all the opposition groups,” Makuei said adding that South Sudan government is also planning to celebrate the signing of the peace agreement soon.
