JUBA, 09 November 2018[Gurtong]-Col. Lam Paul Gabriel, SPLA-IO Deputy Military Spokesperson said yesterday that a team of nine officers met at Yei office of the SSPDF in accordance with the directives of the Chief of staffs of both forces to ease the implementation of the Revitalized Peace Agreement.

Last Sunday, the two forces also met around Juba to normalize relations following the celebration of the peace agreement late last month.

According to colonel Lam, the SPLA-IO team was led by Brig. Gen Sammy Logeleng Samson, the Deputy CDR of Division 2B, Sector 8 and he was deputized by Brig. Gen. Peter Wal Chol from the National Mobile Force.

“The meeting was so fruitful and promising towards the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement. The major points discussed and agreed upon were as follows among others. Soldiers from both sides should be allowed and encourage to interact freely with each other by visiting each other’s bases; they should move with departure orders and must be unarmed and in none uniform,” he added.

He said the forces agreed to open Yei – Lainya road, and Lasu-Kaya road to allow civilians move freely “and there will be no detention or checking unless a person is carrying a gun and wearing uniform.

However, he said they also agreed to put posts along the roads to protect civilians from forces of National Salvation Front (NAS) present in the area.

Col Lam said they agreed to render humanitarian organizations unhindered access to the most vulnerable population so that basic services can be provided to them.

“The SPLA IO leadership applauds both teams for the breakthrough during this meeting and asks them to continue with this interaction informally so that final peace can be attained,” he said.
