-Michael Makuei Lueth, the Government Spokesperson told Journalist after the weekly Council of Ministers meeting on Friday that the Cabinet unanimously endorsed the policy.

The policy was presented to the Cabinet by Salvatore Garang Mabiordit, the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning.

With the policy, the National Revenue Authority would recruit staff and embark on immediate collection of Non-Oil revenue to diversify the country’s revenue sources.

Over 90 percent of the country’s revenue is generated by the oil sector the Minister of Information said.

The policy will also enable the authority establish its structures, which according to the government spokesperson had been an obstacle.

“Passing of this policy and structures of the National Revenue Authority, we expect the Revenue Authority to start recruitment soon and immediately take over its task and start collecting the non-oil revenue in the republic of South Sudan,” Makuei said.

The National Revenue Authority was established as part of the reforms in Chapter Four of the then 2015 Agreement on Resolution of Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan (ARCSS).

The NRA was also mandated to assess, collect, administer and enforce laws relating to taxation and revenue.

It was tasked to ensure that all revenues are remitted to a single treasury account and expenditures are conducted in accordance with the law.

Since his appointment early this year, the commissioner general of the National Revenue Authority, Dr Olympio Attipoe, vowed to strengthen the revenue collection Authority and cut down on lost revenue in the process of tax collection.

All's well that ends well. Makuei is back! He has been silent for sometime. "Dr Olympio Attipoe, vowed to strengthen the revenue collection Authority and cut down on lost revenue in the process of tax collection." How do you fancy his successes with "the booming economy"?
