Wau- 25, February 2019 (Gurtong): - As the National Dialogue Committee conference kicked off yesterday in Wau, capital of Greater Bahr el Ghazal, the Co-chair of the National Dialogue, Angelo Baida, called on the people of the region to unite and welcome peace and reconciliation.

Speaking to Gurtong today, Hon Beda said the National Dialogue held a public rally in Wau Public Stadium yesterday and that it would today afternoon launch a one-week conference.

“Today we are going to open a session that will go on until Friday but it may go up to Saturday. We will address ourselves to how the work started. All the governors of Greater Bahr el Ghazal states were at the rally yesterday, which was a very good sign of success,” said Beda.

“We are looking forward to do a good discussion, a good, successful regional conference for Greater Bahr el Ghazal. Success here will encourage us to do even better in Greater Upper Nile and Greater Equatoria.”

Said Hon Beda: “The objective of the National Dialogue is clear. It is to reconcile the people; but before you reconcile you need to talk about the issues, what are the problems that led us into the crises?”

According to Hon Beda, the National Dialogue Committee has already warned the government actors not to intimidate or interfere with any person that spoke out during the conference on issues of concern to the citizens. “We have told the government’s security people to allow people to talk freely, to criticize both the government and whoever is in the game”.

The conference brought together the civil population and the leaders, including the governors of states of Greater Bahr el Ghazal Region.

Hon Beda said this conference would be a great success toward the aims of the National Dialogue in Greater Bahr el Ghazal Region.

He concluded that, “In the National Dialogue, the public have the opportunity to speak their minds on the grievances that are affecting the nation and to strengthen the implementation of the Revitalize Peace Agreement."
