Cueibet, 21/03/2019 (Gurtong) - Local communities in Cueibet, Gok State fear another out break of rats and ants as the rainy season approaches.
The damage caused by rats and ants last year has largely resulted in poor harvest in Gok State, compared to natural causes such as drought and locusts.

Maluak Machut, Gok State Minister of Youth, Culture and Sports, said the outbreak of rats has affected every family in the state resulting in poor harvest.

“Almost every household in the state has been overwhelmed by the presence of rats”, he said.

Minister Machut calls upon Food and Agricultural Organizations, FAO and other partners to support farmers to control rats and ants in the sate.

Deputy Governor Kongoor Deng Kongoor says the presence of rats and ants in farmers’ gardens will not allow good crop production in the state.

He also encourages NGOs working in the state to start community awareness campaign on early crop plantation that can bridge the hunger gap in Gok State.

Kongoor pledges that the state government will always provide security that will allow citizens to cultivate their gardens freely without panic.

The speakers made the remarks in Cueibet during community awareness campaign on peaceful coexistence and women empowerment organized by DARD.
