WAU 27, June, 2019 [GURTONG] - Hundreds of Displaced Persons sheltering in Southern part of Wau town, Agok area, have been cut off from receiving the humanitarian food assistance for this month as a result of bridge that collapsed this week, Wau town Mayor told Gurtong.

Agok, which is less than 3 miles on the outskirt of Wau town, hosts more than 2,000 people displaced from the recent violence in the state, mainly from former Jur River County, apart from it mainly usual residents.

Speaking to Gurtong, Elizabeth Mario said the old bridge was devastated by heavy water making it impossible for vehicles or motorists to cross from one side to the other.

She however said that the municipal council in her responsibility is doing enough to secure the situation for possible public movement.

“Agok bridge is an old bridge, it has broken off one part as a result of heavy rain, which has broken taken off part of the bridge. It is the only direct route to Agok. Now there is no car that can cross, nor anybody on footing can cross because there is much water and there is no way to cross this water except through this bridge,” said mayor.

“Thehumanitarian supplied food for  Agok people did not reach there this month. For the security, if there is any problem, they will have to go through Busere of Mamio; but it is very far. If somebody is sick, it is dangerous. So we as municipality have started work there since yesterday,” she said.

The mayor also mentioned that the working to repair the bridge is undergoing.
