JUBA, 07 March 2010 (Gurtong) –“The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in the Government of Southern Sudan will pay for the feeding and accommodation of returnee’s students in Khartoum, Juba, Malakal, Wau, Rumbek, Renk and Bor camps”, the outgoing Education Minister Prof Job Dhoruai Malou told a press conference in Juba.
“The Ministry will pay tuition fees for undergraduate students undertaking degree programmes in public and private universities only. Egyptian scholarships for students sponsored by the GoSS Ministry of Education, Science and Technology who have failed academically more than once should not be supported financially”, he directed.
According to the minister, the stakeholders, students, parents, community, county, NGOs and the state will cater for the upkeep and transport of the students.
“The criteria for eligibility for the scholarship include providing of progress reports like receipts from the university for those who are already in schools, being undergraduate programme and forfeiting of financial support if he or she repeats and fails”, said Prof Dhoruai.
The programmes outside the ministry’s support include postgraduate that are catered for by individuals or line ministries for diploma, masters or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
He stated that the GoSS Ministry of Education will not support those in private or non-chartered institutions in and outside Sudan.
“The Ministry will not provide feeding, accommodation and any other expenditure to those students outside the country like Uganda, Kenya, South Africa, India among others and those who have failed. However, the Ministry will support the disabled while orphans will be given priority in any selection”, he said.
