Survey on Children in Street Situation in Juba

The growth of Juba into a capital city has caused a rapid increase in population. Juba attracts returnees and people from rural locations due to the employment opportunities available.

Rapid urbanisation of the town has placed stress on the available resources and has lead to
overcrowding which in turn has lead to shortage of houses, development of slums, violence,
unemployment and marginalization. A steady raise of the population of children in street situation in Juba has been remarked, a situation which if not addressed could lead to increased violence and inappropriate responses towards these children.

Enfants du Monde – Droits de l’Homme (Children of the World – Human Rights, EMDH), a
Non Governmental Organization that started its operations in Sudan in the aftermath of the 1998 Bahr El Ghazal famine that led to thousands of people at risk of starvation, conduced a research on this. Click here for the FULL REPORT.
