RUMBEK, 08 July 2010 (Gurtong) – Members of the association with membership in the USA, Canada and Australia visited the Lakes State Governor Engineer Chol Tong Mayay this week, where they made the announcement to support healthcare delivery in the state.
The group’s team leader Samuel Deng said the Agaar community abroad had contributed funds to support the Lakes State Health Ministry.
“We have a container loaded with medicine for Rumbek Hospital that is on its way now to the port of Mombasa sea”, he said.
Deng said the Agaar community abroad has a lot to contribute back home but cited communication breakdown as the main impediment.
“We initiated communication with the immediate former State Governor Daniel Awet Akot, but he left office before we could finalise on a few areas. I want to assure you that all Lakes State sons and sisters in both North and South America are willing to contribution resources to support development back at home”, he said.
He added that the community abroad was in full support of the separation of South Sudan.
The group also expressed their concern with the rise in insecurity in the state and called for immediate government action to address the issue.
Governor Mayay said the state is in dire need of support in terms of infrastructure, health, education as well capacity building of staff in various institutions.
“We need skilled personnel who can effectively deliver essential services to the residents of this state. We need the skilled people abroad as well as investors to come back home and provide their services here”, he said.
He announced that he will visit the USA in three months’ time following a community invitation.
