BENTIU, 04th August 2010 (Gurtong) - Later this week the chief of public security in the State Brig. James Makuar Gatluak issued a directive and announced publicly that all foreigners must be registered and issue documents to those whose documents expired accordingly.
“The registration will help us to identify the number of those who have their travel documents and those who don’t have”, explained Gatluak.
“The new Government of Unity State, like other states, is expected to play a leading role in making this ultimate decision a reality, and nobody will live in fear”, he added.
Gatluak also explained that the registration is free of charge and those who will not participate in this process while holding expired passports or other travel documents will be questioned. He also said that the new incoming visitors should be first identified and ensured that they are holding valid travel documents.
Since the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement in 2005, Unity State has become one of the ten States of Southern Sudan where many investors from Kenya, Uganda and Ethiopia adore staying and doing their business peacefully.
However, until now the total number of foreigners is not yet clear since many of them have not registered.
The role of Public Security is to ensure that the alteration package receives passable security at all levels.
