August 6th, 2010—The SPLM USA Secretariat organized a historic teleconference call on Sunday, July 25, 2010, under the Chairmanship of Mangok Mangok Mayen, to launch out the South Sudan referendum kickoff events. The teleconference resulted in formation of South Sudan Referendum Taskforce—USA. The Taskforce is consisted of 85 strong members.
The aim of the South Sudan Referendum Taskforce—USA is to mobilize, coordinate, educate and enlighten the South Sudanese communities across United States of America (USA) toward the upcoming referendum of January 2010. The Taskforce is structured according to regional representations, in order to reach every possible South Sudanese residing in any of the regions of USA.
The upcoming South Sudanese referendum provides opportunity to all the South Sudanese people to exercise for their self-determination in deciding whether to be part of Old Sudan or making South Sudan an independent state.
The objective of SPLM USA Secretariat leadership is to ensure the aspirations of South Sudanese people by making sure that every South Sudanese have a chance to fully participate in referendum activities as prescribed in CPA and South Sudan Referendum Acts. The SPLM USA Secretariat is employing SPLM Referendum Campaign guidelines, developed at the SPLM headquarters to facilitate referendum activities throughout USA.
However, whenever possible or as conditions dictate, these very guidelines are tailored to accommodate the local compelling situations so as to necessitate the process.
