Makana commended the speed and quality of the work being done by construction firms, adding that most of the roads in Juba will be opened to the public soon.
“ I am glad to say that in Juba there is a lot of improvement as the tarmac road that connects Munuki from the junction of the Seventh Day Adventist Church all the way to the airport is almost complete save for the completion of the bridges that joins it to the main tarmac in the airport”, he said last week.
He added that more work was going on in other roads including the road from Kololo that joins the main Juba road and passes through Southern Sudan Radio through Beijing Hotel, the road from Atlaabara that goes all the way to Jebel Kujur and from Juba Bridge up to the small bridge near Addis Abba Hotel to Konyokonyo.
“From this week we are going to work from Midan Huria (Freedom Square) at John Garang Secondary school near Konyokonyo market and we are deploying tractors there to do the work up to Hai Cinema”, Makana emphasised.
“What is remaining now is the road from the junction of the Seventh Day Adventist church which is known as Gudele road that stretches five miles up to Gudele, and we are going to work on it this coming week”, said the Minister.
He added that the road from the roundabout of Muduria up to Buffalo Bank will also be worked on next week and tarmaking will start immediately the preliminary work is completed.
He announced that Mundri Bridge that was opened last year by the President of the Government of Southern Sudan General Salva Kiir Mayardit is now operational and two others, Katira and the Bandima that connect Tora Payam to Yei County will be opened soon.
The Minister also gave an account of his successful tour to Western Equatoria State where he inspected ongoing road construction.
A number of companies and organisations including Civicon, UNOPS, Eyat, USAID and GTZ among others are involved in construction of the roads that seek to contribute to development in Central Equatoria State and South Sudan as a whole.
