China, South Sudan Boost Economic Ties

The Chinese Government and the Republic of South Sudan (RSS), have reinforced their cooperation as witnessed in a historic ceremony marked with the signing of several agreements and various memorandum of understanding in different sectors.

JUBA, 18th January 2012 [Gurtong] - The Chinese Government and the Republic of South Sudan (RSS), have reinforced their cooperation as witnessed in a historic ceremony marked with the signing of several agreements and various memorandum of understanding in different sectors.

The two partners signed six documents in different fields including health, oil and petroleum, water, financial cooperation and capacity building.

The agreements were signed between different South Sudanese Ministers in their respective Ministries and the Chinese delegation representatives at Home and Away Business Centre in Juba.

The agreement was witnessed by the SPLM Secretary General Hon. Pagan Amum and the Chinese head of the delegation, Li Yuanchao.

Among the signed agreements included; a handover certificate of boreholes projects funded by the Chinese government, exchange of letters on a grant to to RSS provided by the Chinese government, memorandum of understanding  (MOU) concerning sending a Chinese Medical Team to work in South Sudan.

Others included an MOU for economic and financial cooperation between China Export and Import Bank (EXIM Bank) and the RSS Ministry of Finance, and training agreement for the South Sudanese workers in the petroleum sector.

Speaking to the press shortly after the signing ceremony, the SPLM Secretary for Political Affairs Mr. Antipas Nyok underscored the importance of the signing ceremony.He said that the agreements signed in the different sectors which commit the Chinese government to play a developmental role; will support RSS in an attempt to address challenges hindering provision of basic services to her people.

Meanwhile, Mr. Ai Ping the Deputy Minister of International Department Central Committee of the Communist Party of China pointed out that, the Chinese delegation visit aimed at intensifying the cooperation between the two countries.

“Our visit is aimed at re-affirming the friendship between our parties-(SPLM and the China Communist), two countries and the two people. It will also further promote mutual understanding which is very important to explore the cooperation between our two countries.”

The Chinese delegation headed by Li Yuanchao, a senior member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China also met with the South Sudanese President Salva Kiir Mayardit.
