WAU, 24 May 2012 [Gurtong] – The two stations went off-air two weeks ago following the breakdown of the station’s power generator.
The acting head of SSTV in Wau Louis Pasquale Aleu told Gurtong today that the generator’s spare parts have not been purchased due to insufficient funds.
“Our funding from the central government was trimmed and as a result many of our programmes have been affected. We only need the generator spare parts as we have sufficient fuel to power it”, said Aleu.
He revealed that he has already informed the state authorities on the issue.
“We are still going to be off-air until the repairs are done. In the meantime, our reporters continue gathering news and information which will be broadcast once normal operations resume”, he said.
A huge percentage of the population in the Western Bahr el Ghazal State capital Wau rely on SSTV for information on state events and news.
