Jonglei UDF Representative Expelled

The United Democratic Front (UDF) has revoked the appointment of minority groups’ representative Joyce James Konyi.

JUBA, 01 June 2012 [Gurtong] –The party’s Jonglei State chairman George James Gatluak told the press that the decision was arrived at following consultations with the party leadership in Juba and at the state level.

“It has been unanimously agreed that Joyce James Konyi be dismissed from the party for involvement in activities against the party’s constitution and non-adherence to party instructions”, said Gatluak.

Konyi who expressed her surprise at the action termed it unconstitutional and added that she was not consulted prior to being expelled from the party.

“I am shocked by the sudden turn of events. I was not even briefed on the matter and I cannot tell whether the expulsion is with regards to the group I represent or a personal issue”, said Konyi.

The UDF party was established in 2001 in Khartoum under the chairmanship
of Peter Abdurahman Sule.

This is the first time the party’s Jonglei State secretariat has dismissed a sitting member.
