BOR, 02 June 2012 – The Jonglei Women’s Union has elected Elizabeth Nyayuak Beire as new Chairperson and Elizabeth Akur Machar as the State Speaker.

Addressing the women, the State Minister of Gender, Social Development and Child Welfare Rebecca Anok Omot encouraged women to proceed to higher levels of education so as to get an equal representation in the government.

The new chair Nyayuak called for respect between the members and discouraged any behaviours that might jeopardise their cause.

“Let us respect each other, support each other and stay away from tribalism within this union”, she said.

“I also advise fellow women to unite and work hard to supplement the meagre income from civil service employment. This will ensure we take our children to school besides keeping them healthy”, she said.

The union’s executive is made up of 11 members, one elected from each county with additional two speakers from each county.
