YAMBIO, 05 June 2012 [Gurtong] – The State Minister of General Education and Instruction Pia Phillip Michael has urged communities in the state to support government efforts to improve educational facilities in the state.

Speaking during a tour of Nagero, Tambura, Ezo and Nzara counties last week, the Minister advised parents to prioritise education of their children.

He said his tour was meant to sensitise the local communities to own education and support the sector.

Recent findings in most Payams in the four counties show most schools as lacking necessary facilities like concrete class rooms, water points, learning materials and teachers among other key challenges.

Parents have also been slow in payment of essential school fees.

The respective County Commissioners who welcomed the Minister expressed their readiness to promote education and agriculture.

They also encouraged parents to support the education of the girl-child to secure their bright future.

During the tour the Minister was accompanied by the State Director General of Education Michael Gelon Hiriwo, respective members of parliament and the Director of Basic Education Mirghani Elizara among others.
