RUMBEK, 06 June 2012 [Gurtong] – The County Commissioner David Marial Gumke told Gurtong that his administration has managed to return the livestock to their respective owners after they were identified at an inter-counties peace conference held in Akot Payam of Rumbek East last month.

“We have managed to return stolen cattle to rightful owners in Yirol West, Rumbek North and Yirol East counties. We are calling for peace so that our state can develop”, said Gumke.

Rumbek East County has a long history of hostilities with its neighbouring counties.

A meeting convened by the State Ministry of Local Government and Law Enforcement Agencies this week at Pacong payam in Rumbek East County saw the two main rival communities of Thuyic and Gong acknowledge their differences, where they pledged to co-exist peacefully.

The Lakes State Governor Chol Tong Mayay called upon the state residents to cease hostilities and resolve disputes whenever they arise.
