The Northern Bahr El Ghazal State Legislative Assembly has been re-opened after a three - month recess.

AWEIL, 20 June 2012 [Gurtong] - The Assembly had been closed following persistent squabbles reportedly masterminded by some top SPLM members in the state secretariat.

The re-opening was called by the State Governor Paul Malong Awan who instructed the Deputy Speaker Achol William Amuoi to invite all the legislators for the reopening.

The impeached Speaker Aguer Wol Aguer has accused the State Governor of the woes faced by the Assembly.

He told Gurtong that the wrangles started in April this year when a section of legislators ganged up to disrupt house business and to oust him.

Among the accusations raised included insubordination and failure by the Assembly to deliberate on the 2011/2012 state budget.

The members had called for Aguer’s resignation over the impasse.

He said he was willing to step down once the constitutional procedures are followed to impeach him.

He attributed the standoff to his stand on taxation of the MP’s salaries.

When will the political wrangling in the Government of NBGS ever stop. we are tired of the political squabbles and gimmicks that always end up superseding the interest of the state citizens.
The politicians will do us a lot of good if the stop pestering us with their stomach, nephotic and ethno-clanism fights and instead focus on urgent issues of skyrocketing prices of both food and non food items in the markets, unemployment, border conflict and the simmering floods and well as the settlement of the the returnees from our enemic neighbour, the Republic of Sudan.
