TORIT, 23 June 2012 [Gurtong] – The ECS team narrowly beat the AIC team by four goals to three at the Torit Freedom Square grounds in the tournament organised by the Inter-Church Committee.

The event was also attended by South Sudan’s newly-hired international coach Zoran Djordjevic who scouted for new talent for the national team.

Officials said South Sudan is preparing for a regional football tournament slated for Rwanda later this year.

Four teams; the ECS, AIC, Catholic and SPC (Kamsimia) competed for the trophy during the 3-day tournament that began last week.

Prior to claiming the crown, the ECS team knocked out the SPC team by two goals to one with AIC sailing through to the finals after narrowly beating the Catholic Church team.

Besides the trophy, the winners received a ball with the other teams each receiving a ball in consolation.

Officials said the tournament was held in a bid to unite the state’s youth.
