BOR, 23 June 2012 [Gurtong] – She said top of her priorities will be the attainment of universal health for all as per the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs).
“I am grateful for my new appointment and I will discharge my duties to the best of my ability. I will focus on improving health and sanitation in Jonglei State. I call for team work as it will ensure this is achieved by my ministry”, said Deng as she took the oath of office Friday at a ceremony presided over by the President of the High Court George Anger.
The Minister said her focus will be on reducing infant mortality rates as well as tackling diseases such as malaria and the HIV/AIDS scourge.
“Good health is key to development and as we know our people have suffered for long. Now that we are an independent country, every South Sudanese should have access to quality health care”, she said.
She vowed to initiate programs in line with the vision of South Sudanese leadership towards improving the well being of the country’s citizenry.
