(KAMPALA) 30 June 2012 [Gurtong] – Through the South Sudanese Students Union in Uganda, the students have so far contributed 11,000 South Sudanese Pounds.

The Union’s Finance Secretary Bill Dhieu told Gurtong that the move was triggered by the incursion into South Sudan by the Sudanese army in the oil-rich Heglig area in Unity State.

He said the contributions that commenced in April will be concluded next month.

Dhieu said the heads of the South Sudanese student unions at the various institutions will hand over their contributions which will then be passed on to the SPLM national secretariat in Juba.

“In appreciation of the great work of our gallant forces the union will top up the amount collected after an executive meeting that will decide on the amount to be added”, he said.

He added that the union also intends to purchase medical supplies to assist any wounded South Sudanese soldier.
