BOR, 06 July 2012 [Gurtong] – The acting Director General of the State Ministry of Health Dr Kuai Deng Kuai has told Gurtong that the few nurses at the facility are not well qualified while others lack proper documents.

Jonglei State Hospital is the only hospital operating in Jonglei region with a population of about 1.3 million people depending on it for medical services.

“We need to employ at least six medical doctors and later on employ one for each county. The hospital is supposed to have twenty doctors but we have only four medical doctors at the moment”, Dr Kuai said.

He added that most of those employed in the hospital are community health workers, traditional birth attendants and child health workers who were trained during the civil war.

He added that the state has been running without some medicines since 2006 as the medicines from Juba only support the primary health care centers.
