YAMBIO, 08 July 2012 [Gurtong] - The Western Equatoria State Governor Bangasi Joseph Bakosoro said the purpose of the gathering was to listen to the youth’s grievances, saying the youth are the backbone of the liberation struggle that brought independence last year.
“Youths are peace lovers, free from tribalism, hatred and nepotism”, said Bakosoro.
He advised the youth to love each other and promote the unity of the state. “I am pleading with you my fellow brothers and sisters to prioritise education and avoid violence”, said Bakosoro.
The Governor encouraged the artists to sing educative songs that influence the society positively. While addressing the gathering, the State Minister of Youth and Sports Gibson Wande pledged to work closely with the youth in the State.
He disclosed that a memorial day will be set for the youths in the state to meet face to face with the Governor. Other issues raised by the youth included the start of vocational trainings and the reopening of the Yambio Youth Information Center.
The Governor donated 10,000 South Sudanese Pounds towards organising the independence celebrations.
