JUBA, 12 July 2012 [Gurtong] - The registration of foreign nationals living in South Sudan has been extended for two more weeks.

Director General of the Directorate of Nationality, Passport and Immigration Augustino Maduot Parek says the extension has been necessitated by the huge number of the foreign nationals who did not register due to the long distance to registration centers.

The registration will now continue till July 21, 2012.

He urged all the unregistered foreign nationals to register within the stipulated period.
The government had earlier given a month ultimatum for all the foreign nationals to register.

Editor, Gurtong,

Are South Sudanese in diaspora and who happened to be there during war, and had not obtained South Sudanese citizenship after independence regarded as foreign nationals? What about those who had secured South Sudanese citizenship and are still using foreign passports; is their dual citizenship forfeited for not securing South Sudan passports?
I have my old Sudan passport, does South Sudan regard me as a dual citizen of both South Sudan and new Sudan or is my South Sudan citizenship forfeited in case, if I obtained a South Sudan citizenship but without a passport? In the Old Sudan, I learned, some South Sudanese who were ministers in the then Government of national unity were holding both Sudan and foreign passports.

Please inquire from the South Sudan immigration office because South Sudanese in diaspora are not yet aware of South Sudan immagration and citizenship laws.
Thanks,
Deng Bior Deng.
