YEI, 25 July 2012 [Gurtong] – The Land Administrator at the Department of Land and Physical Infrastructure Selestino Poru Wuka told Gurtong that the most affected are those who produce bricks in the flood-prone low lands.

Wuka has alerted those living on the wetlands and swampy areas to leave immediately as the areas are at a risk of landslides.

He added that the residential areas are supposed to be 30 to 50 meters away from the wet and swampy areas.

Over the weekend, several water streams and bridges were over flooded, making it impossible for the residents to move.

No casualties have been reported yet although there are fears of disease.
