Putting Cattle Rustling on Check in Cueibet County

The Acting Governor of Lakes State Mabor Achol Kuer has issued an ultimatum to the rival communities in Cueibet County of Lakes State to return back stolen livestock.

KAMPALA, 27 July 2012 [Gurtong]– In a message broadcast to all the counties, Kuer gave the rustlers three days to return the animals.

The state authority had sent out the South Sudan Police Services and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA) to return all the recovered animals to the rightful owners.

The Commissioner of Rumbek Central County Abraham Mayen Kuc said that 17 suspected raiders have been arrested and are detained at Rumbek prison for questioning.

 “More than 75 heads of cattle have been recovered during the operation”, said Kuc.

 Kuc said that the operation for recovering stolen cattle will continue for three weeks.
 
The counties targeted in the operation include Cueibet, Rumbek North, Rumbek East, Rumbek Central and Yirol West and Yirol East.
