RUMBEK, 08 August 2012 [Gurtong] -The suspects were arrested on Tuesday for causing chaos and commotion in the state capital.

The State Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement Agency Benjamin Makuer Mabor announced the arrest of the 12 suspects.

“We have captured 12 people suspected to be behind the shooting on Tuesday,” said Makuer.

The fighting and shooting broke out in residential areas of Malul-Akan and Malakia.

Makuer added that the state is hosting Inter-school competitions and the security agents are on high alert.

“We have arrested the girl and the man who impregnated her including all 12 suspected people”, he said.

The state government is planning to take them to court once investigations are over.

The commotion on Monday forced police to fire in the air to separate the two families that were fighting.

It is alleged by a family that their 15-year-old girl eloped with one Laat Makur Agot last month and was impregnated but the man denied responsibility.

His action is said to have angered the girl’s family leading to the confrontation.

The girl’s family filed a court case at Rumbek Town Court under Chief Dhelbeny Makuer Gol but when the hearing started yesterday, Laat still denied taking responsibility.

Police intervened by firing bullets in the air to disperse the fighting group.

According to the minister, both the girl and the boy have also been arrested following the shootings.
