JUBA – 8 August 2012 [Gurtong] - Government spokesman Dr Barnaba Marial denied recent media reports that senior military and intelligence officers have been put behind bars for planning the coup.

“There are no people arrested because of accusations that they have attempted a coup. This is not true. It is a rumor. We know that they have mentioned some of our senior officers in the army,” Marial said.

Marial assured the citizens that the government is stable and that the reports are being spread by people with the intention of dividing the country and causing confusion.

There was information circulating last week that the Deputy Director of Military Intelligence Major General Mac Paul and a SPLA Senior Marial Nuor had been arrested after an attempted coup against the South Sudan government.
