BOR, 15 August 2012 [Gurtong] – Jonglei state Legislative Assembly Speaker Peter Chol Wal said that the suspended MPs created a chaotic situation in the parliament during the discussion of the bill to replace one MP who passed away.
The twenty members were standing in solidarity with the suspended colleagues after they felt aggressed following the arrival of Police at the house without conducting a full review into their conduct.
“We are demanding for the law full conduct reviewing or amending the order of the house. Therefore we boycott the sitting today,” Peter Deng Aguer said.
The Speaker said that there was a recommendation from the state governor recommending one of the MP from greater Bor community to be put in the vacant position.
“In normal circumstances it is the governor that makes a nomination and then presents the nomination to the assembly to be endorsed,” Said Wal.
The Member of Parliament for Akobo County Baranaba Okuony Gillo said the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement party should discuss the crisis in the assembly and give a way forward on the situation.
He said that the speaker cannot dismiss a member without the conduct of business done by the assembly.
Police blocked the dismissed members from entering the Assembly compound.
The MPs who were suspended are Judi Jonglei Bioris, Peter Kuony Yaak, Toung Majok and Moses Mayul Bol.
