BENTIU, 22 August 2012 [ Gurtong] - The news of his passing spread all over Unity State as the state government, relatives and the citizens gathered at his residential home in Bentiu.
Messages of condolences have started being sent in to the families of the late.
The Secretary of Unity State Dhoal Koryom Linglingis is expected to release a statement to give the people of Unity State details of the funeral arrangements.
General Matip who was also the deputy commander in chief of the SPLA was one of the top militias’ leaders who joined the SPLA right from the establishment of the Government of South Sudan.
His health deteriorated after he suffered diabetes and high blood pressure.
Matip was expected to travel to Unites States this week for further medical attention.
His memorial ceremony is expected to attract all his colleague in the army, high profile government official among other dignitaries.
Meanwhile in Juba, Gurtong’s Correspondent witnessed senior government officials including the Vice President Dr Riek Machar paying their condolences to the family.
Other key dignitaries at the home included the government spokesperson Dr Barnaba Marial, the Unity State Governor Taban Deng Gai and SPLA generals.
Security has been reinforced around the barracks following news about his death as many visitors are expected at the barracks.
